A Showhouse Showstopper with Southern Living

When Sarah Lavine-Kass of Stone Acorn Builders called me a few months back about a showhouse opportunity with Southern Living, I immediately said yes! What’s more fun than working on a cool new home with a great builder and team?

Along with Meg Lonergan, we’re designing a Southern Living Showcase Home in partnership with Stone Acorn Builders and benefiting the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation

With the recent passing of the former first lady in all our minds, it was important to me to jump in on this project. Located in the Braes Heights area of Houston, an area greatly affected by Hurricane Harvey, this 6000-square foot, three story house is stunning. From the layout to craftsmanship to design, the team has thought of everything.

Lindsey Herod Interiors is excited to be designing a cozy library at the front of the house, an inviting family roomwith a wall of full sliding doors, the laundry room, and a retreat of a master bedroom and bath.

Here’s a sneak peek of some of our inspiration and design boards!

For the library, a high-gloss lacquered finish in rich Peacock Blue by Sherwin Williams using their newly formulated super high gloss paint meets unique accessories and comfortable upholstery for a cool hangout spot for the family. When the house was being built, the Bush family wrote quotes from their beloved mom on the framing of the house which we've had calligraphered by Taylor Blair Paper and will be a sweet reminder of her in this library. Alongside some vintage, modern art from Reeves Antiques, accent chairs from Back Row Home and a fun game table from Joyce Horn Antiques make this spot great for working or relaxing, and offers a quiet spot with great morning light. This space has quickly become one of my favorites!

For the living room, a clean and neutral palette will compliment pops of colors. We’re curating custom upholstery and furniture pieces like modern brass and leather chairs from LAM BESPOKE to accent the coolest feature wall of functioning floor to ceiling glass sliding doors. The room will feature a beautiful antique oushak rug from Matt Camron and a custom coffee table using one of my favorite new materials, SegretoStone by Segreto Finishes. This living room comes together with unique accents and art from Found for the Home and a lovely piece by Lynn Sanders from Dimmitt Contemporary Art.

The master bedroom will be quiet a retreat with soft blue hues and a mix of old and new. From the soft blue area rug from Venetian Blind Carpet One, a sweet club chair and ottoman from Wells Abbott, a custom king headboard with pretty linens from Lettrefinaalongside antique sideboards with soft florals and colors from Carl Moore Antiques, we're excited about the relaxing and romantic vibes in here.  Beautiful pieces of art from both Jenn Thatcher and Mariel Sawicki finish the space. It’s truly dreamy!

We also got to work on fun accents in the laundry room including a precious Abigail Borg paper from Supply Showroom. Think florals and a bright yellow ceiling….can’t wait for you to see it!

You'll see fun and fresh fabrics and trims from Block & Brayer, Manuel Canovas, Colefax and Fowler, Clarence House, Fringe Market and Samuel and Sons throughout our spots in the home like window seat nooks, custom furniture and pillow accents here and there. It really has been a team effort with some of our favorite vendors to design this house and we're so grateful for their support.

The showhouse opens this weekend and we’d love to invite you to support the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation by visiting the home! I will be giving a tour on Saturday, September 15th at 3PM and would love for you to join me! Come shop all the furniture and upholstery, go on the guided tour with me, see cooking demonstrations and more!

Showhouse Dates: September 15-16, 22-23, 29-30; 10AM-5PM

Admission is $15 at the door with proceeds benefiting the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation

See you there friends!

Throwback Thursday: Dallas Design Weekend

Last week, my assistant, Molly, and I headed up to Dallas to explore Dallas Design Weekend! We were on the hunt for some cool pieces for a few of my clients, and just to get an idea of what DDW has to offer. It was a crazy and quick 48 hour trip and we saw lots of great furniture, art and accessories.

First stop in Dallas, the Dallas Design Market at the Dallas Market Center. It was crazy busy and a whirlwind as we worked all 15 floors in 6 hours! Talk about speed shopping!

Loved this cork dresser from Currey & Company . Clean lines, great texture and really digging the lucite and brass hardware. Three drawer nightstands are my favorite for ample storage and a pretty look.

InDetail had some awesome finds. These cFc blush pink velvet tub chairs were a highlight of the weekend. Great looking and definitely passed the comfy test!

One of my favorite accessories were these magnetic acrylic displays by Wexel Art . What a great idea for displaying kids art or framing photographs and I love how simple they are. I’d love to have these in my office for client inspiration boards!

Was happy to stop by one of my favorite lighting companies, Visual Comfort & Co. They carry some really unique pieces from a variety of designers and brands. They're my go-to lighting company.

On our second day in Dallas, after some much needed coffee, we hit up some independent showrooms and stores.

The James showroom was hard to beat, hosting some of my favorite fabric and wallpaper lines... please open a showroom in Houston!

Our last stop before heading back home to Houston was a store I’ve followed for awhile but had never been too, and boy, it did not disappoint! Blue Print is a beautiful shop in a gorgeous old house near downtown Dallas.

In Review: Theta Design Weekend

What a whirlwind of a weekend it was at Theta Design Weekend 2017! Hats off to the committee who planned another fantastic event full of talented designers, great vendors and pretty pieces. From the antiques I saw, to the designers I mingled with and the panel I spoke on, it was a great show.

Clint and I had a fun evening at the Preview Party Thursday night! It was great to visit and catch up with all my busy designer friends and share what we’re all looking forward to in the holiday season. I enjoyed walking around the vendors and seeing all the goodies they brought!

As we all know, Design Weekend is not complete without shopping. I stopped by quite a few of my favorite vendors throughout the weekend, both from Houston and around the country.

I loved these fabrics from JAMES. What beautiful textiles to plan a design around. My head was spinning with ideas!

The art was amazing. I’m a sucker for a statement piece of art. This was one of my favorites from William McLure from Birmingham.  And the furniture. Some absolutely gorgeous pieces were on display. I’ll gladly take one of everything! There were quite a few things that caught my eye.

I was honored to be invited to speak as a part of the Young Designer’s Panel Sunday afternoon alongside some of my local design friends. We discussed some of our favorite trends, dream projects, and favorite elements to incorporate in our designs. I especially enjoyed hearing what Ben, Paloma, and Hallie shared on their favorite designs and their design process. It was filled with lots of great information and definitely lots of laughter!

Thank you to Theta Design Weekend for having me and putting on another great event this year! What a great way to wind down 2017 and already looking forward to next year!
