Tis the Season for Decorating

Can you believe Christmas is 13 days away?! Where has the time gone? The Christmas Season is my absolute favorite, and what a treat we had last week in the south with a surprise snow fall!  This is a time for family and friends, lights and decorations, and celebrating the year’s best memories. Especially now with young children at home, it makes this time even more magical.

Decorating for any holiday brings me great joy.  I’m always looking for inspiration throughout the year for not only my client’s homes, but my own. From fresh trees to vintage ornaments as well as sentimental pieces we’ve picked up throughout the year, my approach to holiday decor and entertaining is a direct reflection of me and my family.

Fresh is Best

Fresh trees, garland, and foliage not only bring texture and authenticity to your decor, but the smell of fir is the epitome of Christmas to me. I love adding greenery to Holiday center pieces, vases throughout my home, entertaining tablescapes, or tied to a present. Amaryllis, paper whites, citrus, pomegranates, boxwood and magnolia leaves all add color and a freshness to your decor, making pieces you reuse every year, look different. A tip: search your own yard for greenery you have on hand; you would be surprised what you have in your own backyard to spruce up your Christmas table!

Vintage Touches & Sentimental Ornaments

Adding vintage glass ornaments to your trees and wreathes or vintage plates to your Holiday table blends old and new, which is a theme of my decorating style no matter what the project. Vintage glass and the story it tells is always beautiful. Local antique malls always have a nice collection this time of year. Sentimental ornaments add a personal touch to your Christmas tree. To look at an ornament and be reminded of a trip or memory my family experienced is a sweet touch.

Hanging Stockings with Care

Some of the best details are the little ones like stockings and a tree skirt. Sometimes the smallest attention to detail like custom family stockings or a coordinating tree skirt, can make your holiday decor the most personal. Pick fabric you love and have a local seamstresses make stockings or a skirt that brings it all together and coordinate with your interiors. I discovered Splendor Collections out of San Antonio at the Theta Design Weekend and love their Fortuny stockings!

All Around the House

I love to add small holiday touches throughout my home.  You'll find white linen hand towels in my guest bath with red embroidery with a sprig of holly in a bud vase, a pink tree in my toddlers bedroom, and boxwood wreaths hung on my bedside sconces and a pink poinsettia on my dresser.  It's the small touches throughout that I love.

Wishing you all Happy Decorating and a Merry Christmas!
